Live Weather Briefing

Get current weather conditions and forecasts for any city worldwide.

Installation

  1. Make sure Claude is on your device and in your terminal.

Skills load from ~/.claude/skills/ when Claude Code starts up — so you need it on your machine first. If you don't have it yet, install it once with the command below, then run claude in any terminal to verify.

    One-time setup
    npm i -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code

    Already have it? Skip ahead.

  2. Paste into Claude Code or into your terminal.

This copies the whole skill folder into ~/.claude/skills/live-weather-briefing-skill-francyjglisboa/ — the SKILL.md plus any scripts, reference docs, or templates the skill ships with. Safe default: works for every skill.

    Faster alternative (instruction-only skills)

Skips the clone and grabs only the SKILL.md file. Don't use this if the skill ships Python scripts, reference markdowns, or asset templates — they won't be downloaded and the skill will fail when it tries to load them.

    Quick install (SKILL.md only)
    Sign up to copy
  3. Restart Claude Code.

Quit and reopen Claude Code (or any other agent that loads from ~/.claude/skills/). New skills are picked up on startup.

  4. Just ask Claude.

Skills auto-activate when your request matches the skill's description — no slash command needed. Trigger phrases live in the skill's own frontmatter; you can read them in the “What this skill does” section above.

When Claude uses it

Create a current, source-linked weather briefing for a named city using the Open-Meteo geocoding and forecast APIs. Activate for requests such as "what is the weather in Sao Paulo?", "prepare a current weather briefing for Tokyo", or "get today's live conditions for New York". Do not use for travel booking, weather alerts, historical climatology, or safety-critical decisions.

What this skill does

/live-weather-briefing-skill

Create a current weather briefing for one city. Resolve the city through Open-Meteo's geocoding API, then retrieve current conditions from its forecast API. Always show the resolved location, observation time, and source URLs.

Run

python3 scripts/run_pipeline.py --city "Sao Paulo, BR" --output briefing.md

The command makes two live, read-only API requests and writes a Markdown briefing. It never books travel, sends alerts, or changes external data.

Required behavior

  1. Use the first exact geocoding result and show its country and coordinates.
  2. Retrieve current temperature, apparent temperature, wind speed, weather code, and observation time.
  3. State that weather is advisory and include the source URLs.
  4. If a city cannot be resolved or an API response is incomplete, stop with an error; do not invent conditions.

Gotchas

  • Current conditions are model data, not a safety alert. Check local official warnings before decisions involving risk.
  • A city name can be ambiguous. Include a country or region in the request when the city is not unique.
  • Conditions change after retrieval; the briefing's observation time identifies the freshness of this result.
