What this skill does

Comet Hotfix is a rapid bug-fix workflow designed for urgent, localized repairs. It condenses the full Comet process into four essential phases—open, build, verify, archive—skipping planning and design exploration. Use it only for fixes to existing functionality that don't introduce new capabilities, change interfaces, or require architectural adjustments. The workflow outputs a streamlined OpenSpec change record and automatically transitions between phases, pausing only at upgrade decision points or when encountering scope conditions that exceed hotfix limits.

What it does

  • Rapid change setup — creates a minimal proposal, design, and task list without comparative analysis or lengthy exploration
  • Direct build execution — runs tasks sequentially with format checks and tests; automatically loads the systematic-debugging skill if crashes or failures occur
  • Root-cause verification — confirms the bug's underlying cause is actually eliminated before proceeding to verification
  • Lightweight verification — delegates to comet-verify for scope-based assessment; typically applies 6 quick checks for small, localized fixes
  • Automatic phase transition — moves through open → build → verify → archive without user intervention unless upgrade conditions or manual transition flags apply
  • Upgrade gate — halts and requires explicit user confirmation if the fix exceeds 3 files, involves architecture changes, schema modifications, new public APIs, or multi-module scope

How to use it

Invoke /comet-hotfix when you have a specific, isolated bug to fix. Provide the bug description, expected behavior, and any relevant error messages or failing tests. The workflow will guide you through rapid specification, coding, testing, and final archival. At each phase boundary (build→verify, verify→archive) the system checks auto-transition rules; unless configured otherwise, it proceeds automatically. If the fix scope expands beyond single-file or two-file territory, you must confirm an upgrade to the full /comet workflow before continuing.
